Digital Watersheds

We've been working with researchers at Berkeley Water Center, computer scientists at the San Diego Supercomputing Center, and CUAHSI researchers, we've been exploring what a "digital watershed" actually means. Part of that has been to explore how data cubes can be used to simplify data availability browsing and data analysis when combined with other data handling tools.

The Russian River is managed by the Sonoma County Water Agency. We're using historical data available from the USGS, NOAA and other agencies to produce a water balance and then look at changes in flood behavior over time. More information on the Berkeley Water Center Russian River investigation can be found here.

Information on CUAHSI Hydrologic Information System and the Observations Data model can be found here. The Bear River cube is the first cube built from the CUASHI ODM. A second ODM cube built from the USGS NWIS shape files is under construction. Stay tuned.
