Abstract:

The Community Buzz project is analysing and exploring the social structure of online communities for identifying key discussion topics and facilitating search for relevant discussion threads. We will present a prototype service that demonstrates the use of text mining, social network analysis and visualization techniques for exposing trends in topic discussions, revealing hot discussion topics and ranking newsgroup search results based on author roles. We will also talk about the use of social network data for automatic classification of newsgroup message types, predicting agreement/disagreement and question/answer patterns in discussion threads.
