I am a researcher at Microsoft Research in Cambridge, UK. I am part of the machine learning and perception group. Currently, I am developing machine learning techniques for information retrieval on the web. This includes ranking models and methods for incorporating click information to find more relevant search results. I am also looking for fast learning methods of Conditional Random Fields (CRFs). Previously, I worked on learning Bayesian Conditional Random Fields, and Hidden random fields. This was done in the context of recognition of hand-drawn ink, in particular of diagrams and sketches. I also built a hand-writing recognizer that adapts to a user's particular style of writing. This capability is valuable for TabletPC devices, which enable you to easily take electronic ink notes. I already find them quite useful and great fun! Research on hand-drawing analysis and graphical models My publications short list and long list (with abstracts). Between 2003 and 2005, I organized the machine learning reading group, jointly held between Microsoft Research and the Cambridge inference group.
