About Me
Hello! I blog regularly
at http://prashblog.com. My online
profiles are available
at Facebook, Linkedin. The consequences of my recently found fondness for photography can be
found here. My
curriculum vitae is available here.
I work as an Assistant Researcher in the Mobility,
Networks and Systems Group where I concentrate on Mobile
Systems and Systems
Security. Earlier, I completed my Bachelor of
Engineering from the College
of Engineering, Guindy (Anna University).
During my college days, I used to contribute to the GNOME,
LDTP
and Hackzor
projects and was a successful candidate of the Summer of Code '06
program. I completed my Final Year Project - A Semantic File
System, for my undergrad degree under the guidance of
Professor Arul
Siromoney. I have interned at Novell India and
AU-KBC.
Projects
-
Nericell focuses on road and traffic monitoring using an ensemble
of mobile smartphones carried by people in normal course. The
vision is that when a user who is participating in Nericell puts
their phone in their pocket and starts driving, software on the
phone will automatically monitor road and traffic conditions along
their drive, and convey this information to a service in the cloud
for aggregation and reporting.
-
WebProfiler aims to leverage end hosts, such as desktops, laptops,
and home PCs, to detect and diagnose failures experienced during
Web browsing. The goal is both to provide end users with insight
into the nature of network problems that they encounter, and to
provide network operators such as consumer ISPs and enterprise IT
departments visibility into the end-user experience. The system
operates by using software sensors to passively monitor existing
communication at a distributed set of end hosts, and share these
observations securely with peers to identify and alert users about
network problems.
-
GeoStack
GeoStack is a work-in-progress project that provides a
probabilistic solution to stack overflow attacks/errors. This
solution although more heavyweight than existing solutions like
Stack Canaries, is much more efficient than Control Flow Integrity
(CFI). GeoStack also effectively thwarts Code Geometry attacks.
-
Location Based services
I am also working on using radio interfaces (without
infrastructure association) for enhancing location based services,
estimating proximity of locations in terms of "radio hops" instead
of absolute distance. This is especially relevant for current day
smartphones which often lack a GPS chipset.
