Markus Lofstrom

Markus Lofstrom is a Web Development Engineer in the Social Computing Group. He was born in Vienna, Austria, and has a degree in Film/Video from the California Institute of the Arts. Aside from studying computer mediated social interactions he is interested in storytelling and drama. In January 1999 his beautiful wife Robin gave birth to their son Henry. 3 years later John followed.

Most recently Markus has worked on implementing the Visual Decision Maker in which a stream of images is continuously adjusted based on users' responses and then movie recommendations are displayed using a collaborative filtering backend. The VDM can be used by 1 to 4 people simultaneously and was on display in the Building 112 cafeteria for about two months.

Markus has also been working on the Outlook integration of the Personal Map project. When writing a new mail message, we integrate personal map information. Names of important people and groups, and those people related to people on the to: & cc: lines are more accessible. A user study will follow.
