John Winn

I am a researcher in the Machine Learning and Perception Group, specifically the learning group although I also work with the vision group.

My research interests are:

• machine learning - variational inference methods and frameworks for automatic inference including Infer.NET and Csoft;
  
• bioinformatics - analysis of biological data and systems, focusing on relating human genetic variation to phenotypes, including susceptibility to common diseases;
  
• machine vision - designing generative and discriminative models for solving vision tasks such as object recognition, segmentation and motion analysis.

Previously, I was a Ph.D. student in the Inference Group at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge University supervised by Chris Bishop and David MacKay. I have also been a member of the Signal Processing Group at the Engineering Department and a Kennedy Scholar at the Learning and Vision Group at the MIT AI Lab.
