Jin Li is a principal researcher at Microsoft Research (Redmond, WA). He manages the Communication Systems subgroup, which is a research area in the Communication and Collaboration Systems group covers media storage and delivery. His research interests cover information coding, real-time audio/video conferencing, networked media, peer-to-peer system, and distributed media storage

Jin received his B.S., M.S and Ph.D. degree from the Electronic Engineering Department, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, all with honors. Before coming to Microsoft Research Redmond, he worked as a researcher/project leader at Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing, China. He is also an affiliated professor for Tsinghua University, Beijing, China since Jan. 2000. Prior to that, He was a member of technical staff at the Sharp Laboratories of America(SLA), Camas, WA. From Aug. 1994 to Oct. 1996, He was an associate researcher at the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles, CA. He worked at the Integrated Media Science Center (IMSC) and the Center for Applied Mathematical Science(CAMS).

Jin is a senior member of IEEE. Currently, he serves as an area editor for the Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation and an associate editor for the Peer-to-Peer Networking Applications. He was an associate editor for IEEE Transaction on Multimedia. He is the co-organizer for ACM MM’2005 workshop on advanced P2P streaming and QShine’2006 workshop on recent advances in P2P streaming, and is the lead guest editor on the special issue of “Content storage and delivery in peer-to-peer networks” for IEEE Transaction on Multimedia and the guest editor on the special issue of "Advances in peer-to-peer streaming systems" in the IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communication. He has been TPC members of many conferences. Jin received the 1998 SPIE and IS&T Visual Communication and Image Processing Young Investigator Award in 1998.
