Dr. Jian Wang
Assistant Managing Director, Microsoft Research Asia

Dr. Jian Wang is an assistant managing director at Microsoft Research Asia. He manages multimodal user interface group, data-centric computing group and adLabs Beijing. Dr. Wang's research interests are ink and pen computing, multimodal user interface, large-scale data and information processing, seamless computing, and human cognition.

Dr. Wang is led research and development of digital ink technology that was shipped with first release of Tablet PC, OneNote 2003 and Windows XP Tablet PC edition 2005. The handwriting math equation recognizer was shipped in July 2005.He is also responsible for researching core technologies and developing systems for data-driven software (data infrastructure and analysis for SQM and Watson), Microsoft advertising platform and seamless personal computing.

Prior to joining Microsoft in 1999, Dr. Jian Wang was with the Department of Psychology of Zhejiang University, where he led exploratory research into human-computer interaction. He also enjoyed the distinction of being the youngest-ever department chair in the university's history. In addition, Dr. Wang He also served on many expert panels for various government initiatives and funding agencies

Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. in engineering psychology from Department of Psychology, Hangzhou University.
