I am an associate researcher
in the Wireless and Networking
Group at Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA). I received B.E and M.E (both with
honors) from Automation Department, Tsinghua
University in Beijing in 2002 and 2005.
My research interests include Mobile
Computing and Wireless Networks and Signal Processing. Actually, I am interested in any
novel techniques and systems that can enhance collaboration among users on any
networks, especially distributed forms.

Projects

BeepBeep seeks a high-accuracy ranging technique, without leveraging any
pre-planned infrastructure or special hardware/system modification. It should be
a software-based solution and uses only the most basic set of commodity
hardware so that it is readily applicable to many low-cost sensor platforms and
COTS mobile devices. The key idea is to use the pair-wise the elapsed time of
arrival (ETOA) of sound signals between the two devices to infer the distance.
We have implemented BeepBeep prototype on Windows 5.0+ mobile phones and
demonstrated that it can achieve around one or two centimeters accuracy
within a range of more than ten meters. More information about BeepBeep can be
found in this page.
Point&Connect (P&C) offers an intuitive and resilient device pairing solution
on standard mobile phones. Its operation
follows the simple sequence of point-and-connect: she simply points her phones toward the
intended target, and it is done for pairing. The key idea is to measure maximum
distance change based on acoustic signals to capture the user intention and
pick the right device among many others nearby. We have implemented P&C in
Windows Mobile phones and demonstrated that it is acool and effective way to do
device pairing. More information about Point&Connect can be found in this page.
