Part of UbiComp 2003

Participation

The workshop will have a maximum of thirty participants. Participation from both academic and industrial backgrounds is encouraged. Interested parties might include those who

  • Conduct location-aware research in any capacity
  • Have experience with deployments of location-aware systems and can share their insights
  • Develop applications with requirements for location information

Position Statements

Prospective participants are asked to submit via the Conference Management Toolkit a single page position statement in the ACM SIGCHI conference publications format. Here is a Latex class to use. (Specify \documentclass[nocopyrightspace]{chipproceedings}.)

Position statements must have only one author. Statements should include the following

  • Brief summary of current research interests and activities
  • Discussion of viewpoint(s) on a particular aspect of location-aware computing
  • Paragraph-long biography

Authors should avoid both detailed descriptions of current research projects as well as position statements that attempt to address location-aware computing as a whole.

Rather, in line with the workshop goals, there should be an attempt to address a particular aspect or line of research within location-aware computing, leading to one or more observations, thoughts, or research methods for the subject. Controversial ideas and new approaches are welcome. For topic ideas, see the workshop details.

Workshop Invitations

The position statements submitted will be used by the organizers for selection of workshop attendees. All accepted position statements will be made available to other participants before the workshop using this website, as well as at the workshop in printed form.

A strong position statement may lead to an invitation to give one of the six invited talks during the workshop. In addition, the invited speakers and the top 10-15 authors will be requested to expand their statements to three-page "technotes," which will be part of a proceedings published on the UbiComp website. Submitters of position statements will be allowed to specify that they are not interested in speaking/being in the proceedings; this indication will not affect the likelihood of acceptance as a participant.
