Part of UbiComp 2003

Organizers

Mike Hazas
Lancaster University
Lancaster, UK

Mike's PhD work focused on indoor location sensing technologies. During the course of his study, he evaluated current location systems, constructed two broadband ultrasonic location systems, and investigated the advantages of broadband ultrasound for indoor positioning. Mike is now a research associate at Lancaster University, working on infrastructure-free relative positioning technologies for devices on surfaces.

James Scott
Intel Research
Cambridge, UK

James Scott has been working in UbiComp since 1998, though he didn't know it at the time. His PhD was on the Networked Surface, a novel type of network using physical surfaces such as desks as the connecting medium, which also provides accurate location and orientation information. His current interests include automatic deployment of location sensing systems.

John Krumm
Microsoft Research
Redmond, WA, USA

John Krumm is a PhD researcher at Microsoft Research. His experience in location-aware computing includes person-tracking with video cameras, the SmartMoveX RF active badge, and the Locadio system for computing the location of Wi-Fi clients. In addition to work with these location sensors, he has developed various means of enhancing accuracy by respecting prior assumptions about peoples' walking speeds and feasible paths.
