Social Computing Symposium 2006
The Social Computing Symposium 2006, sponsored by Microsoft Research, will
take place May 8-9, 2006 in Redmond, Washington, U.S. The goal for this event is to foster an
awareness of research and innovation in social technologies and to create new
lines of communication between research and industry. This year’s event will
focus on two specific areas of social computing — online third places and mobile
social software — and on cultural and lifestage issues associated with each.
We have nearly 90 people from industry labs, new technology companies, and
academic research coming this year. The symposium will be focused on brief
“lightning round” panels that focus on questions in this emerging technological
space and on discussions surrounding those questions.
Lightning round panels and closing keynotes will be webcast. We will also provide an
interactive chat or IRC environment to support external participation in the
symposium activities. Details on the webcast and chat environment will be posted
the week before the symposium.
