Biography
Will is a Ph.D. Candidate in Computer Science from the University of Washington, and he has been associated with the Social Computing Group for six years. Before attending UW, he graduated from Duke University with a degree in biomedical engineering and computer science. He has research interests in social computing, software engineering, and computational finance. Over the last five years, we’ve developed a tool that allows us to apply the social network analysis and visualization techniques we’ve developed to a variety of data sources ranging from public (mailing list memberships) to private (email) and corporate (project groups) to personal (photos of social events). By providing standard interfaces, other groups at Microsoft have also been able to leverage these algorithms to analyze their own data sets (e.g. common interests of CEOs attending a conference, Siebel sales data).
