The Social Computing Symposium 2004 was held on March 29-30, 2004 at Microsoft Research in Redmond, Washington. The Symposium was hosted by the Social Computing Group in MSR in collaboration with the Social Computing Research Groups at IBM and FX Palo Alto. We hosted 75 researchers, practitioners, and designers, all leaders in the field of social computing and social software.

The goal for this event was to support open collaboration between industrial research laboratories, practitioners, and members of the academic community -- exploring and elaborating issues that are central to research in Social Computing such as the consideration of theoretical and methodological issues in the design, development and evaluation of Social Computing technologies, and elaboration of the potential for emerging Social Computing technologies.
