About the New Faculty Fellowship Program

Learn more about the New Faculty Fellowship Program.

Every year the External Research & Programs group selects five Microsoft Research New Faculty Fellows from a pool of approximately 100 individuals nominated by universities across the United States and Canada. The New Faculty Fellows are each awarded a $200,000 (USD) gift to stimulate creative research in their respective fields. Microsoft Research New Faculty Fellows have full freedom to use the funds to advance their research agendas.

“The caliber of the Microsoft Research New Faculty Fellows is simply stunning. They have already obtained significant results. The clarity of their vision and the scope of their research demonstrate their potential for future leadership in the field of computing.”

Sailesh Chutani, director of External Research & Programs

Nominations for the 2009 Microsoft Research New Faculty Fellows will be accepted from October 6, 2008, to 12:00 noon, Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), November 3, 2008. As described in the Application Process page and the Frequently Asked Questions page, each university can nominate one candidate for the New Faculty Fellowship Program.
