Microsoft Research India External Research & Programs
 

One of Microsoft Research India’s goals is to advance the state-of-the-art in research in computer science and allied areas, and to strengthen the research ecosystem in India. To achieve this, Microsoft Research India, through the External Research and Programs (ER&P) group (earlier called University Relations), collaborates extensively with academics and institutions. The group is working through a variety of global and regional initiatives and programs. The ER&P group works towards the following:

• Building India’s research capacity by enhancing the PhD pipeline
• Increasing global visibility of Indian research and enhancing interaction between Indian and foreign academia and researchers
• Help India become a leader in research in computer science

The ER&P group already has a number of programs underway towards these objectives, which include:

• PhD fellowships- awarded every year to students in India to encourage them to take up doctoral education
• Travel grants- to enable students to travel to top international conferences, thereby increasing exposure to the state-of-the-art in their fields and network with the international research community
• Internships open  to undergraduate and graduate students in India and abroad for periods of 2-6 months
• Summer schools- an annual summer school that typically spans two or three weeks. The Microsoft Research India summer schools provide intense exposure to the latest developments in various areas of research, presented by some of the world’s foremost researchers in the field
• Workshops
• Visiting researcher program
• TechVista: Microsoft Research India’s annual signature event which aims to promote research as a career by bringing together the world’s top researchers and scientists, academia and government onto a common platform
• Young faculty awards
• International Post doctoral program
• Managed research program
