Managed by the Microsoft Research lab in Redmond, Washington, this
group focuses on global and regional initiatives that advance the
state of the art in computer science and computational sciences, and
in the teaching of these disciplines. The engagement model
emphasizes public requests for proposals and active collaboration
with faculty to ensure maximum success for supported projects. |

External Research Office — Europe, Middle East and Africa
The focus of the Cambridge, England-based group is to extend the
scope of Microsoft Research into important new areas outside “core”
computer science. This is being achieved through new types of
strategic public-private collaborative research partnerships with
universities, governments, and industry partners. |

University Relations — Asia Pacific
From Microsoft Research Asia in Beijing, China, this group acts as a
bridge between Microsoft Research Asia and the academic community
throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The goal is to build long-term,
mutually beneficial relations by fostering advanced research,
promoting academic exchanges, and cultivating tomorrow’s leading
researchers. Although the majority of the team is based in Beijing,
it has University Relations managers in Tokyo, Japan; Seoul, South
Korea; Taipei, China; and Sydney, Australia. |

This group, run by Microsoft Research in Bangalore, India, supports
Microsoft Research India’s objective of fostering innovation through
research and enhancing higher education in India. It accomplishes
this through a variety or programs including research grants,
conference support, Ph.D. fellowships, travel grants, and its work
with universities, institutions, and schools to disseminate
innovative curricula. The group has also started a unique series of
summer schools that offer in-depth exposure to specific
computing-research-related areas through some of the best known
names in different fields. |
