Getting Xbox360 in Games on "SILK" research platform Changhu Wang, 2006 MSRA fellow

"At MSRA you will gain research experience," Changhu Wang said. "You also have the opportunity to win big awards, such as an Xbox360 by participating in many intern activities."
MSRA organizes many colorful activities and training events for interns each month. "Games on SILK" is one of them. SILK is a research prototype that can support thousands of participants in playing online Chinese Chess at the same time. Changhu competed with more than 140 interns and won the championship award. Most interns had fun in this attractive competition, and they experienced the development level of High Performance Computing PC and Artificial Intelligence The competition encouraged interns to write their own game applications on this platform and to challenge others.
"It it a pleasant experience for me attending Games On SILK," Changhu said. "When I was 5 years' old, I beat my dad, grandpa and uncle while playing Chinese chess. I was also a team member who helped my team win the team championship in the primary school of our city. However, from middle school until now, because of busy studies, I didn't play chess anymore. "
So in the games, Changhu found his childhood again, which brought him happiness and great surprise. Besides an Xbox 360, he also gained friendships at the lab.

Exploring Beijing with MSRA interns Yuichi Taguchi, 2006 MSRA fellow

After Yuichi TAGUCHI received his fellowship award in 2006, he joined the visual computing group of Microsoft Research Asia for four months and advanced a research project in wonderful working environment. During his four-month life in China, Yuichi visited many great places of interest. The trip to Shidu was one of his best memories in Beijing.
In the early spring, Yuichi and almost 40 interns went out to Shidu, the beautiful place near Beijing. Climbing mountains and cliffs, campfires, and boating in the lake were so exciting to him and other interns.
"One of my best memories was an intern trip to Shidu with about 40 interns," Yuichi said, "An amusement park visit with my mentor was also exciting. I liked to play foosball and billiards at the lounge for relaxation and getting to know new friends. In addition, MSRA kindly arranged Chinese classes for foreign interns. That was really helpful for my life in China."
Before Yuichi ended his internship at MSRA, he said, "It was great to have gotten to know interns and fellows from several countries at MSRA. Talking with the highly motivated interns was so exciting."(Left in the picture: Yuichi Taguchi)

Receiving the fellow award on "Computing in the 21st Century" in Korea Sang Ki Yun, 2007 MSRA fellow

2007 fellow winners Sang Ki Yun, a PhD student of Korea University and Mira Lee, a PhD student of Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology received fellowship plagues from Dr. Hsiao-Wuen Hon, Managing Director of Microsoft Research Asia at the "Computing in the 21st Century" conference in Korea on Nov. 2, 2007. Around 1650 academicians attended the conference and saw the award ceremony. "The fellowship award was the greatest honor in my life." Sang Ki Yun said.
Another fellow winner Mira Lee will come to Beijing as an intern in 2008."Thanks to my MSRA fellowship, I had an opportunity to go to Beijing and work in MSRA. This trip is full of mystery and has allowed me to improve my research abilities and to feel the culture of a leading company while making friends with excellent students from all over the world."
