Microsoft Technology Club

Microsoft Technology Club (MSTC) is a collaborative program between Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) and participating universities, which provides students with opportunities to learn cutting-edge technology, to experience multi-dimensional culture, and to practice with innovative ideas.


Our Vision
MSTC opens the door to wonderful experience and culture, to advanced technology and practical experiences, and moreover, to the community of talented peers as well as lifetime membership.

Program History
On October 15th of 2000, the first MSTC was established in Sichuan University, Southwest China. MSRA has been providing technology support as well as other resources to the MSTCs in the following years. There are currently 30 MSTCs in China, with about ten thousand members.

MSTC Members
Both undergraduate and graduate students in participating universities could join the MSTC of their universities. While many of the members are engineering students, there are members of various majors such as Business, Library, and Fine Arts. They enjoy life of MSTC, and call themselves, proudly, MSTCers.

MSTC Activities

Technology Competitions Organized by Microsoft
The most important goal of MSTC is to promote advanced technology among students in ways of education, practice, and technology transformation.

Student Project Student Project
Started in October of 2003, Student Project is a long-term program where MSTC members as well as students who are interested in the technology and culture of Microsoft start their own software projects. MSRA provides well-developed projects with funding, software, books, professional guidance and other opportunities. Teams learn and develop from the project management modified from real business field. At the mean time, MSRA gets a better understanding about the interests of promising students.

Student Project Top Competitions
MSTC, together with MSRA, has been organizing and recommending Chinese students for first-class technology competitions. The achievement of Chinese students in these competitions promotes the influence of MSTC. One of the top competitions is Imagine Cup, a global competition by which Microsoft is encouraging young people to apply their imagination, their passion and their creativity to technology innovations that can make a difference in the world.

Competitions and Training Organized by MSTCs
Innovation, as is often emphasized in MSTC, motivates MSTC members to create and organize all kinds of activities. Some of them provide technical training. Some aim at building strong and effective teams.

Experience of Microsoft Culture
Besides technology support and resources, Microsoft provides opportunities for students to experience the culture inside Microsoft.

Microsoft Summer Camp
Organized by UR group, Microsoft Summer Camp welcomes delegate MSTC members and other related student clubs in Chinese universities. As an important activity of Microsoft’s support to higher education in Asia-Pacific region and to cultivation of talent in Information Technology, Microsoft Summer Camp is successful collaboration between MSRA and universities in the region. Since the year of 2000, more than 800 students have benefitted from this annual event.   Summer CampSummer CampSummer Camp

Growth in MSTC
MSTC has witnessed the growth and achievements of the clubs and members. As many MSTC members graduate and continue to pursue their dreams in academia, industry, business and other fields, they treasure the experiences and the abilities developed at MSTC.
