will be held on October 23-24, 2006 in
Beijing, China. The annual event is a platform
to facilitate the communication and cooperation
among universities across the Asia Pacific
region and address hot topics in computer
science research and education.
First day of the summit is designed as an
academic forum. The theme of this year is
"Growing with the Region." Rick Rashid, Microsoft
Senior VP of Research, and Harry Shum, Managing
Director of MSRA, will share with us the results
of Microsoft Research in its fifteenth anniversary.
Microsoft researchers will present recent
development of advanced technologies; and
first time in the Faculty Summit, there is
an MSRA open house, where you will be invited
to the lab talking to researchers and watching
cool demos! Also discussed in the summit are
topics of common interests such as: success
of young faculty in research and teaching,
the future trends in computing, and the use
of technology to improve learning and living.
Second day of the summit is the Computing
in the 21st Century Conference, which always
attracted thousands of professors and students
in past seven years. We have a strong lineup
of speakers this year including three Turning
Award winners: Andrew Yao (2000), Jim Gray
(1998) and Niklaus Wirth (1984). The theme
of this year is "The Challenge of Quality
Software." As computing is becoming the central
part of many human activities, reliable, predictable
and secure operation of computerized systems
and computing services is critical. However,
increasing functionality and complexity make
such operation a challenge to ensure.
More than 200 deans and professors from the
top universities throughout the Asia Pacific
region will attend the summit. Look forward
to meeting you in Beijing in October.
