Microsoft Research Asia Theme: Innovation of Computing and Education October 30-31, 2005
Hangzhou, China The annual summit hosted by Microsoft Research Asia is a platform to facilitate the communication and cooperation among the universities in the Asia Pacific region and is designed to address the hottest topics in computer research and education. The theme of the MSRA Faculty Summit 2005 is "Innovation of Computing Research and Education". The program will highlight innovative computing research and latest trends in computing education. The first day of the summit is designed for the academic forum. In the morning session, presentations and discussions will be around promising research at Microsoft Research and universities in Asia Pacific and North America. The afternoon session is intended to share the latest trends and practices of computing education. A round table discussion will be arranged to discuss the hottest topics in computing research and education. Many distinguished researchers of Microsoft Research and Professors from renowned universities will address the summit. The speakers include: Harry Shum, Managing Director of MSRA; Dan Ling, Vice President of Microsoft Corporation; Xie Huanzhong, Director of Science and Technology Department of China MOE; Pan Yunhe, President of Zhejiang University; Ishikawa, Vice President of the University of Tokyo; Jeannette M. Wing, Head of the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University; Eugene Fiume, previous Chair of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto; and other research managers of MSRA. On the second day, we will combine the summit with the highly respected academic conference hosted by MSRA: the 21st Century Computing Conference. Many world-class scientists, researchers and Turing Award Recipients will give keynotes and talks to update the numerous promising and exciting developments in the frontier areas of computing. The distinguished speakers addressing at this time include: Rick Rashid, Senior Vice President of Microsoft Corporation; Ronald L. Rivest, Turing Award Recipient; Alexander Gounares, Technical Assistant to Bill Gates, and other speakers. More than 200 deans and professors from computer science and engineering departments of well-known research universities in the Asia Pacific region will attend the summit. Hangzhou is one of the most scenic
cities in China. There's a Chinese saying that goes "up
