1. Where and when the summit will be held?

The summit will be held at Linshui Report Hall, Zijing Campus of Zhejiang University on October 31, 2005.

All the participants will stay in Hangzhou World Trade Center. After the summit, MSRA will organize the Conference on 21st Computing all the faculty summit attendees are welcomed to join.

2. What is the purpose of the workshop and who will attend?

The annual summit hosted by Microsoft Research Asia is a platform to facilitate the communication and cooperation among the universities in the Asia Pacific region and is designed to address the hottest topics in the computer research and education area.

More than 200 deans and professors from computer science and engineering departments of well-known research universities in the Asia Pacific region are invited to attend the summit.

3. How can I make the registration?

Please confirm your attendance with relevant profile information through one of the following three ways:

a. Complete the Confirmation Form that was sent along with the invitation letter, attach it to an e-mail and send it to: fs05@microsoft.com.

b. Complete the Confirmation Form that was sent along with the invitation letter and fax it to +86-10-62555337, attention to Mr. Ferry Yang.

c. Register on the website http://research.microsoft.com/ur/asia/summit05/Register/Register.aspx. Complete the registration form online and submit it. You will receive an Email to confirm your successful registration.

4. What is the detailed Travel & Expenses arrangement?

• Flight Tickets and Travel Stipend

You need to purchase the round trip tickets from your local city to Hangzhou by yourself. It is suggested for you to purchase your tickets at least 30 days in advance of your scheduled travel. Microsoft will provide a travel stipend in some amount depend on the region. You will get the stipend in US$ in the form of “American Express Travelers Cheques” when you check into the hotel in Hangzhou.

It is recommended to arrive at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. MSRA will arrange airport pickup in Hangzhou according to the arrival confirmation.

•Hotel arrangements

Microsoft will arrange your accommodation (Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, 2005, three nights) in Hangzhou World Trade Center according to your attendance confirmation. If you have special requirements, please discuss with the event service team at hotline number +86-10-84935978 ext. 2023 (9:00AM -5:30PM, Beijing Time). Microsoft will, for each attendee, cover the cost of meals and accommodation during the summit.

5. Do I need a Chinese Visa to enter China?

Please make sure to consult at the Chinese Embassy or general consulate in your county or region to find out if you need a Chinese Visa to enter China.

6. What is the procedure to apply for the visa?

This year all the Visa issue will be handled by local University Manager. Please contact the University Manager who invited you to attend the Faculty Summit. He/her will help you to handle the Visa issue.

7. How can I get to the hotel from the airport and how long does it take?

We will provide you with an airport pick up or drop off per your request. Normally, it takes around 45-60 minutes to get to the hotel, depending on the traffic condition. You can also find the map and address of the hotel on their homepages and take a taxi to the hotel by yourself. We will reimburse the taxi fare according to the cost shown on the taxi invoice.

8. Will pick up arrangements be available for arrival by train as well?

We have 2 options for you to choose:

  1. For your convenience, you can take a Taxi by yourself to the hotel and we will reimburse the taxi fare (FYI, the cost from Hangzhou Train Station to hotel is around RMB20-30).
  2. If you are not familiar with Hangzhou area and need us to pick you up at the station, please provide us with the arrival details (train NO., arrival time, and train station name).

9. Do you provide City tours before the event?

Microsoft has arranged an optional tour on October 30 according to your arrival time in Hangzhou.

  1. Arrived in Hangzhou before 11am (the tour will start at 2:00 pm), we will arrange the tour as follow:

    Zhejiang Provincial Museum, Ling Yin Temple, West Lake
     
  2. Arrived in Hangzhou after 11am (the tour will start at 2:00pm, 3:00pm and 4:00pm), the tour will take place for sightseeing around West Lake.

Note: The tour is our courtesy for your participation on this Faculty Summit 2005 and 21st Century Computing.
