Background

Microsoft Research Asia established corporate/university joint research labs in order to carry out research and development in some specific areas. Since1999, ten labs have been established at Zhejiang University, Tsinghua University, Harbin Institute of Technology, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Science and Technology of China, Peking University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Beijing Film Academy, and Xi'an Jiao Tong University. In 2004, five of them were upgraded to become China Ministry of Education Key labs. In the past eight years, 50 experts in different research fields completed over 70 joint projects, and 400 papers have been published out of lab work. More than 700 students participated in the projects work.

The 2nd Microsoft Joint Laboratory Symposium held in Harbin

Harbin Institute of Technology hosted this meeting, which was attended by China's Ministry of Education's Officers, the directors of the Microsoft Joint Labs from universities in Mainland China and Hong Kong, and senior management from Microsoft Research Asia.
Asia Information Retrieval Symposium 2008 held in Harbin

The 4th Asia Information Retrieval Symposium was successfully held in Harbin from Jan. 15 to Jan. 18, 2008. It aims to bring together researchers and developers to exchange new ideas and latest achievements in the field of information retrieval (IR).
