 The lab was founded in September 2003. Research areas include signal processing and speech recognition, content-based retrieval as well as wireless video communication. Lab members have published significant papers in IEEE Trans. on Image Processing, IEEE Trans. on Circuit and System, ICIP, ICME each year. Eight technologies generated by the lab have been accepted by Joint Video Team in Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG/JVT). Through the platform, young professors have the opportunity to work at Microsoft Research Asia as visiting researchers. The lab was upgraded to become a China Ministry of Education Key Lab in 2004.
