Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) and Tsinghua University held an Internet Services workshop at Tsinghua University on August 9-10. The event was co-organized by MSRA and the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE)-Microsoft Key Laboratory of Media and Networking Technology at Tsinghua University. Some 70 professors from more than 40 most influential research universities or organizations in the Asia-Pacific region attended.

“It was really a great opportunity to hold such a workshop on this hot topic with Microsoft Research Asia,” said Professor Zhisheng Niu, vice dean of the school of Information Science and Technology at Tsinghua.

Dr. Wei-Ying Ma, an MSRA principal researcher and research area manager, provided an update on Microsoft research work during an opening speech. Professor Shiqiang Yang, Co-Director of the MOE-Microsoft Key Lab, spoke about the lab’s research work that centers on Internet Services. During the workshop, special guests such as Professor Tat-Seng Chua from the National University of Singapore presented their latest research. Selected winners of MSRA Internet Services Invitation for Proposals program from last year shared their research results.

In addition, there were poster and demo sessions which allowed attendees to talk about their research. “I thoroughly enjoyed this experience,” said Dr. Peter Bailey, an attendee from Australia. “It was great to meet lots of fellow researchers from the region, as well as hear what is going on at MSRA in search.”
