The study of interaction techniques in pen-based systems
Kochi University of Technology, Japan

Kochi University of TechnologyThe proposal explores novel pen-based interactive techniques to weaken limitations of current pen-based systems based on WIMP WIMP (window, icon, mouse/menu, pull-down menu/pointer) paradigm. Moreover, these proposed techniques offer more flexible and natural operational manners to the user.

They plan to achieve the goal by the following two steps:

Step 1: Seek to widen current input bandwidth by exploring additional possible entry dimension.
This type of researches is carried out by conducting a series of experiments considering some essential interactive elements such as task types and visual feedback and so on.

Step 2: Study and design novel pen-based interaction techniques concerning natural operational manners suited for pens based on the particular characteristics of pen and entering information from additional input.
In particular, focus on techniques incorporated with additional input parameters. Combining tactile-control with pen-based interactive techniques the performances of fundamental interactive tasks such as selection and navigation are augmented with additional input information.
