MSRA Young Professorship Program

Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) has developed rapidly since its founding in 1998. Today, the lab has more than 300 researchers, and has published some 1,500 papers in top international journals and conferences, and pushed the state-of-the-art forward with major innovations and technological breakthroughs.

Excellent researchers, most of whom are cute, studious and young innovators educated at top Chinese universities, form the foundation of the success and long-term development of MSR Asia. At the same time of accepting these researchers, MSRA has a very clear mind of the importance of returning to the universities and helping to improve the environment of Chinese talent qualities. Therefore, MSRA has paid attention to the communication and cooperation with education circle since founded, trying best to return to university and taking helping universities cultivate excellent talent in computer science and technology as one of the most important tasks. The growing and development of younger professors is the hottest issue that many people are concerned about. These professors are taking on important historic mission, and the universities development and technology innovation in the future lie on their contribution to a great extent. Besides, they also play a role of a connecting link between the preceding and the following: on the one hand, they will demonstrate their literary gradually as a new force in subject building; on the other hand, they will become the main force in teaching, and participate in the task of cultivating new person with ability. Having a great enthusiasm in scientific research and talent cultivating and the courage to try new methods to reform, most of these professors are becoming backbones of universities on scientific research and teaching. However, at the present time, they can't get timely and enough support to make innovation in scientific research and teaching because of the lack of academic popularity.

After communicating with many well-known experts in Chinese education circle, MSRA will carry out 'Microsoft Research Professorship', aiming at discovering and supporting the professors that have great innovative spirit and potential on scientific research and teaching about computer science and information technology with the masses of colleagues in education circle.

  • Basing on the condition of candidates and the result of reviewing, MSRA will support about 15 to 20 professors that have great innovative spirit and potential on scientific research and teaching about computer science and information technology, awarding them the title of 'Microsoft Research Professorship'.
  • MSRA will organize 'Microsoft Research Professorship' Workshop, providing the opportunities to communicate with world-class scientists and Computer Science experts to the award-winners.
  • MSRA will help these professors enter the international scientific league and committee in correlative field, promoting the communication and cooperation with world-class scientists and Computer Science experts.
  • MSRA will provide to the winners the opportunities to have a visit to MSRA, Microsoft headquarters or famous academic institutions abroad.
  • MSRA will offer the opportunities to carry on co-research and co- education with MSRA.
  • MSRA will help winners conform and optimize their teaching achievement, and open 'Microsoft Research Professorship' Refined Courses in famous universities.
  • To improve the communication and cooperation among the winners and make more professors get benefit, MSRA will build the 'Microsoft Research Professorship Union' network to follow and support the development of 'Microsoft Research Professorship'.
  • l MSRA will set up the 'Microsoft Research Professorship' Fund in three years. The fund will be provided year after year to support the development of 'Microsoft Research Professorship', innovative research on computer science and information technology, and the project of computer talent education.
