Meet the seven MSRA Young Professorship winners 2006.


LIU Ligang

Ligang's research interests are broadly in the fields of geometric interpolation and approximation, digital geometry processing and Computer image and texture processing. His working experiences are as follows: Department of Mathematics, Zhejiang University, 09/1996-06/2001, Ph.D., Major in CAGD&CG, Advisor: Prof. Guojin Wang, Graduated with Distinction; Department of Mathematics, Zhejiang University, 09/1992-06/1996,Bachelor degree, Major in applied mathematics, Graduated with Distinction. From Jul. 2001 to Jul. 2004, he worked in Internet Graphics Group, Microsoft Research Asia, as a Associate Researcher. Now, he works in Department of Mathematics, Zhejiang University, as a Associate Researcher. He also gained much funding, such as National Natural Science Foundation of China, Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Foundation of China and Microsoft Research Asia Research Funding.
SUN Wenchang

Wenchang got both his B.S. degree and Ph.D. degree in Nankai University. His research interest is in Wavelets and signal analysis. His good performance wins the National Natural Science Foundation of China (TY10126007, 10201014, 10571089) and the Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education for him. He also got many awards, such as Zhong Jia Qing Mathematics Award, Huo Ying Dong Award for Young University Teachers, The Program for New Century Excellent Talents in Universities, Chinese Ministry of Education and so on. Meeantime, he was the Associate Editor of Sampling Theory in Signal and Image Processing.
ZHOU Zhihua

Zhi-Hua Zhou received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from Nanjing University, China, in 1996, 1998 and 2000, respectively, all with the highest honor. He joined the Department of Computer Science & Technology of Nanjing University as a lecturer in 2001, and at present he is a professor, head of the Lamda group, director of the AI Lab, and academic committee member of the department. His research interests are in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data mining, pattern recognition, information retrieval, neural computing, and evolutionary computing. He has won the Microsoft Fellowship Award (1999), the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award of China (2003), and the Award of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars of China (2003). He is also an associate editor of Knowledge and Information Systems (Springer) and editorial board member of other academic magazines. He is a grant review panelist for the National Science Foundation of China (Information Science Division) and Jiangsu Science Foundation(Information Science Group), grant reviewer for the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong and NWO-The Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research. He served as advisory committee or program committee member for various international conferences sand chaired a number of native conferences.

His Research Interests include Multimedia Analysis and Retrieval and Video Coding and Communication. Xiaokang got his PhD degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University on 2000. He is the Technical Program Co-chair, 2007 IEEE International Workshop on Signal Processing Systems (SiPS2007); Special Session Co-Chair, Perceptual Visual Processing, 2006 IEEE Iinternational Conference on Multimedia & Expo (ICME2006), and he is also a member of Visual Signal Processing and Communications Technical Committee,IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. His research experiences include:

Wenming Zheng received the B.S. degree in computer science from Fuzhou University, Fuzhou,China, in 1997, the M.S. degree from Huaqiao University, Quanzhou, China, in 2001, and the PhD degree from Department of Radio engineering, Southeast University in 2004. He is a professor of Learning Science Center of Southeast University now. His major research interests include neural computation, pattern recognition, machine learning, and computer vision.

Xiao Ma received his PhD degree from Xidian University on 2000. Then Xiao take the Postdoctoral Fellow in Harvard University. His research areas include Information theory and its application, coding and streaming.
LI Sanjiang

Dr. Sanjiang Li received his B.Sc and Ph.D degrees in mathematics respectively from Shaanxi Normal University, in 1996, and Sichuan University, in 2001. After two years of postdoctoral research in the State Key Laboratory of Intelligent Technology and Systems, he joined the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Tsinghua University as a Research Associate, in June 2003, and as Associate Professor since January 2005. He is now an Alexander von Humboldt research fellow in Institut f¨¹r Informatik, Freiburg University. His research interests are in spatial reasoning, artificial intelligence, fuzzy topology and fuzzy logic.
