FAQs
How did you get started on this project?
We have been working on creating panoramas for some time, but it was perhaps a talk by Graham Flint and his Gigapxl camera that got us really excited.

What is the biggest image ever created?
We don't know. At the time we made our 4 Gigapixel image we thought it was the biggest, but since then a number of similar sized images have been appearing on the web. See, for example these by xRez, this by Max Lyons, and perhaps this largest of all 8.6 Gigapixel image. The ability to store images in a hierarchical pyramid removes the size limit. Some might claim that the satellite images stitched and served up in your favorite mapping site are the biggest. This may be true.

How is HD View different from other viewers such as QuicktimeVR, Zoomify, or even mapping systems?
HD View combines the perspective (immersive) viewing of panoramas found in QTVR and the flattened panning and zooming found in viewers such as Zoomify and mapping systems. The smooth interpolation between perspective and curved projections provides a unique viewing experience.
