One of the topics will be the election for the new TC Chair, who will serve from January 2000 until December 2002. * The PAMI TC has a new web site with much more information, including more about conferences, awards, etc. You can reach it through the Computer Society at http://www.computer.org, or directly at http://www.computer.org/tab/pamitc-xfer.htm . This is the bookmark you should use -- it's a "jumper" page that will get you to the actual PAMI TC home page. * Sorry for the email list being down for the last few months. It's back now, better than ever. What's new: -- The membership list for the PAMI TC will now automatically feed into the email list. -- If you don't want to get the email, send me a note and I'll add you to my "exclusion" list. -- We've also decided to expand the coverage of the PAMI email list to include events in the community that may not be sponsored by the IEEE. In the past, we used to reject such things from the email list. =============================== =============================== CVPR'99 Information =============================== A reminder to all that CVPR is imminent. Programs for the conference, workshops, and tutorials, as well as registration and hotel information, are available at the web site: http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~cvpr99/ =============================== =============================== CFP: Workshop on Vision Algorithms: Theory & Practice (ICCV'99) Contact: Bill Triggs, william.triggs@inrialpes.fr =============================== - ICCV'99 Workshop: Call for Papers - Vision Algorithms: Theory and Practice http://www.inrialpes.fr/movi/people/Triggs/visalgs Recent years have seen impressive theoretical advances in vision geometry, for example mosaics, layers, shape and appearance based models, uncalibrated vision, multi-view relations and invariants. These were motivated by exciting potential applications like large-scale visual scene modelling, flexible tracking and motion analysis, image and video databases, and virtual studios, offices and schoolrooms. But in practical terms it is unclear which of the new techniques will prove most useful. We still lack reliable practical algorithms, even for well-studied basic tasks like scene reconstruction. `Details' like model choice and parametrization, initialization, numerical stability and efficiency, bias, outliers, degeneracies and failure detection can all have a critical effect on overall system automation, reliability, accuracy and efficiency. Generality/complexity/precision must be carefully balanced against simplicity/stability/speed. The ICCV'99 Vision Algorithms Workshop aims to bring together researchers interested in designing well engineered algorithms for any of the basic tasks of geometric vision, including but not limited to: * Visual reconstruction, scene representation * Image synthesis, mosaics, layers * Flexible shape models * Image & video databases (geometric aspects) * Feature extraction & correspondence * Tracking, optical flow, motion analysis * Segmentation, scene analysis * Multi-camera geometry, pose, (auto)calibration Organizers Bill Triggs Bill.Triggs@inrialpes.fr Richard Szeliski szeliski@microsoft.com Andrew Zisserman az@robots.ox.ac.uk For more information, see the web site at http://www.inrialpes.fr/movi/people/Triggs/visalgs =============================== =============================== CFP: Workshop on Graph Algorithms & Computer Vision (ICCV'99) Contact: Ramin Zabih, rdz@cs.cornell.edu =============================== _________________________________________________________________ C A L L F O R P A P E R S International Workshop on Graph Algorithms and Computer Vision Corfu, Greece September 21, 1999 In conjunction with ICCV'99 http://www.cs.cornell.edu/ICCV-graph-workshop ICCV-graph-workshop@cs.cornell.edu There have been a number of interesting results in computer vision in the past few years that make use of graph algorithms. For example, graph-based methods have been recently used to address such classical vision problems as segmentation, stereo, and object recognition. The range of graph algorithms that have been used are also quite broad; recent examples include spectral methods, graph cuts and minimum spanning trees. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers in vision working in this area. We aim to appeal to researchers in computer vision who are making non-trivial use of graph algorithms and theory, and also to interest theoretical computer scientists in the graph problems that arise in vision. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - segmentation and restoration - stereo and motion - shape matching - grouping and visual organization - indexing of image databases - object recognition - energy minimization Because this is a workshop, it is acceptable to submit papers that overlap with existing published work, as long as there is significant new content and the overlaps are clearly identified. SUBMISSION PROCEDURES The workshop submissions will be entirely electronic; hardcopy submissions are not allowed. Papers must be submitted either in PDF format or in compressed postscript format. Submission instructions are available at the web site. Submitted manuscripts should not exceed 15 pages in length, including an abstract of approximately 200 words, references and figures. PROCEEDINGS Proceedings will be published in purely electronic format. Abstracts of accepted papers will be available at the workshop. Authors will also be strongly encouraged to make electronic versions of their presentations available as well.
