SensorMap & Toolkit Tutorial

(co-located with IPSN 2007, April 25-27, 2007, Cambridge, MA)

When: 9am-12pm, Saturday April 28, 2007

Where: 32-D463/Star, MIT

This tutorial includes a hands-on introduction and guide to the use and deployment of sensornet research tools from Microsoft Research (MSR): SensorMap and MSR Sense toolkit. SensorMap is a research portal that lets users visualize and query real-time sensornet data using a geographical interface such as Windows Live Local and allows data owners to easily publish their live data using a web service interface. The toolkit is a collection of software tools that allow users to collect, process, archive, and visualize data from a sensor network.

Note: Attendees wishing to install the software provided at the tutorial should come prepared with a PC running Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista. Visual Studio 2005 or Visual C# Express (free) is required for the last segment of the tutorial since it involves hands-on programming. Some knowledge of C# and web services will be advantageous, but any object-oriented programming experience should suffice. Attendees without such a machine will still be able to follow the tutorial presentations and/or work with a fellow attendee with an appropriate PC.
