Topic:

Machine Learning for NLP using Weka

Abstract:

In this lecture the speaker will describe the main features of the Weka machine learning environment, using NLP applications as examples, particularly, Word Sense Disambiguation. The idea is to introduce people to the environment, which allows the use a collection of state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms, data processing and visualization tools.

Lucia Specia is a final year PhD student of the University of Sao Paulo – Brazil, currently doing an internship at MSR India. Her PhD word addresses word sense disambiguation, focusing on hybrid strategies involving machine learning and knowledge-based techniques, and exploring several shallow and deep knowledge sources. Her current work is on the integration of word sense disambiguation and statistical machine translation. Her research interests also include the use of machine learning techniques for several tasks in natural language processing.
