Our mission is to accelerate the pace of innovation at Microsoft so that we can rapidly deliver new technologies to customers and drive Microsoft's growth.

We take innovative ideas from around the company and evaluate their technical and business potential.  The best ideas are tested using rapid prototyping:  we deeply study our target customers, identify ways in which the new idea could help them, and quickly create a prototype that can be used by a large number of those customers.  The prototype is deployed, studied, and refined it until it can be judged successful or not.  We then work to turn the successful prototypes into successful products and businesses.

We focus on a broad range of technologies including entertainment, communication, and productivity.
