The External Research & Programs group supports basic research and
curriculum innovation in many areas of computing—including social
computing and gaming. We focus on initiatives that advance the state
of the art in computer science and computational sciences, as well
as on the teaching of these disciplines. Our engagement model
emphasizes public requests for proposals (RFPs) and active
collaboration with faculty to ensure maximum success for supported
projects. We fund specific research or curriculum-development
projects only pursuant to identified initiatives or programs. We do
not provide general institutional support or funding for ongoing
educational or philanthropic activities. All funding is awarded in
response to solicited proposals. We solicit proposals both through
private invitations and through published public requests. Currently
we do not accept unsolicited proposals.
All public requests for proposals are published on this site. The
published announcements contain complete detail on objectives,
eligibility, and application requirements for each program. For more
information about the terms and conditions of awards, see the
Research Funding Opportunities FAQ.
