Google Spam Examples

June 22, 2006: http://brahmin-handbag.blogspot.com/ appears as Google #2 search result for “Brahmin handbag” (Figure A1). If you click on the Cached link, you see the page that was presented to the crawler (Figure A2), which contains many repetitions of keywords like “Brahmin handbag”, “Brahmin handbags”, “Brahmin”, “handbags”, “brahmin-handbag”, “Brahmin-Handbags”, etc. The cached page looks very different from what you see if you click on the actual link (Figure A3): this page serves ads from http://search.s-e-arch.com/search.php?keyword=brahmin%20handbag&dor=http%3A//brahmin-handbag.blogspot.com/ and many of the links simply lead to a “Brahmin handbag” search on aggregated shopping sites. The splog URL http://brahmin-handbag.blogspot.com/ is spammed at http://sums.math.mcgill.ca/phorum/phorum/read.php?f=4&i=2018&t=17 (Figure A4) and many other places.

June 16, 2006: http://bridgewater-daybed-e52.blogspot.com/ appears as the top Google search result for “Bridgewater daybed” (Figure B1) and serves ads from http://search.s-e-arch.com/search.php?keyword=bridgewater%20daybed&dor=http%3a//bridgewater-daybed-e52.blogspot.com (Figure B2). Many of the links simply lead to a “Bridgewater daybed” search on aggregated shopping sites. The splog URL http://bridgewater-daybed-e52.blogspot.com/ is spammed at http://sums.math.mcgill.ca/phorum/phorum/read.php?f=4&i=6415&t=17 (Figure B3) and many other places.

http://www.krasmedia.info/search.php?q=Mastercraft%20furniture&said=romPil4&track=http%3A//www.google.com/search%3Fhl%3Den%26lr%3D%26q%3Dmastercraft+furniture, which serves a large number of links that have nothing to do with “mastercraft furniture” (see Figure C2). The splog URL http://mastercraft-furniture.blogspot.com/ is spammed at http://www.diegodelahoya.com/tour/forumthread2.asp?ID=71 (Figure C3) and many other places.

June 17, 2006: http://i-free-mp3-ringtone-maker-program.blogspot.com appears as Google top search result for “free mp3 ringtone maker program” (Figure D1), redirects to http://www.dada-mobile.net/wizard2/?affil=16735-i-free-mp3-ringtone-maker-program.blogspot.com (Figure D2), and is spammed at http://www.eyeofthecat.net/Guest_Book.htm (Figure D3), http://www.smallbusinesses.com/VisitorRegister.htm (Figure D4), http://www.willwhitman2006.ca/portfolio/guestbook/index.cfm (Figure D5), and many other places.
