Microsoft InkSeine Install Instructions
InkSeine is designed for Tablet PC's and
UMPC's (Ultra Mobile PCs).
You can also use it under
Vista
with desktop tablets, such as those sold by Wacom.
InkSeine requires
Windows Vista or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition.
InkSeine is a research prototype provided as-is. InkSeine does
not undergo the rigorous testing process of released products.

We recommend installing InkSeine under Windows Vista.
The install is quicker, and Vista's handwriting recognition is incredible.
For Microsoft Windows Vista:
2. InkSeine requires Office 2003 or Office 2007 to use all its
cool features. Outlook (not Outlook Express) is required to
search emails or link to them from InkSeine.
4. Download and run the installer.
5. The first time you start InkSeine you will see the dialog below.
o Be sure to select Unblock so that you can use InkSeine's
Tool Ring ("scrollcontrol.exe") to scroll through documents and
automatically capture backlinks to any Word, Powerpoint, Excel,
Outlook email, or Internet Explorer web page that you take a
snapshot from. This is a great feature that you won't want to miss.
o If InkSeine's Web Search feature does not work for you, you may have
to add InkSeine to your approved application list in your anti-virus or
Firewall software.
o Due to Vista User Account Control (UAC), some features of InkSeine
(such as dragging links or files into InkSeine, backlinks for screen
clippings, or opening files and links from within InkSeine) will not work
if you have increased the Vista security settings beyond the default
settings, or are running Office, Outlook, IE/Windows Explorer, or
InkSeine as "Administrator" for whatever reason.
For Microsoft Windows XP (Tablet PC Edition):
Before you install InkSeine, make sure you have the following on your system:
1. Apply the patch for Microsoft.Ink.dll under Windows XP. More Info.
2. Office 2003 or
Office 2007
(including Outlook) for all features to work.
3.
Windows Desktop Search (WDS)-
InkSeine will not work without it!
- Install the WDS Add-ins for additional file types (e.g. PDF, Internet
Explorer History, and MindManager) that you want to search for.
- Allow some time for WDS to index your content after the install.
4. Now you can download and run the InkSeine installer.
5. If InkSeine's Web Search feature does not work for you, you may have
to add InkSeine to your approved application list in your anti-virus or
Firewall software.
Please note: In our experience, under Windows XP, the Windows Desktop Search engine often takes 10-15 minutes to get started when you
start a Tablet from a cold boot. If InkSeine displays the error message "Error in Query Engine"
when you first try to do a desktop (a.k.a. "personal") search, WDS is probably still starting. If this error keeps happening for you, double-click on it and report the details of the error to the InkSeine Team.
