Elchanan Mossel Learning on social networks ABSTRACT: Basic questions in economic and social networks involve understanding the learning dynamics of individuals in the network. We will present some of the standard models for learning on networks, a number of new results regarding the convergence of the learning process and some open problems. BIO: Elchanan Mossel obtained his PhD from the Hebrew University in 2000. He was a Postdoc at MSR Redmond and a Miller Fellow at UC Berkeley. Currently he is a faculty member at the Departments of Statistics and Computer Science at UC Berkeley, and at the Mathematics Department of the Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, Israel. Elchanan is known for his interdisciplinary research that combines ideas from Probability Theory, Computer Science, Statistical Physics and Economics. His work was recognized by a Sloan fellowship and an NSF career award.
