What is the basic schedule of the conference?
Arrive on Sunday, July 17, 2005. A reception will be held at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue Hotel at 6:00 PM. All conference attendees will be staying at either the Hyatt Regency Bellevue Hotel or the Redmond Town Center Marriott.
The main conference presentations and events will be held on Monday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 19. There is a full agenda for each day, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. There will also be dinner events on each evening from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. We provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner at conference events on both days. Please note that Microsoft cannot reimburse you for any meals that you purchase directly.

What
does Microsoft pay for? What is not covered?
Microsoft will host invited Faculty Summit participants during the
conference dates, July 18–19, 2005, to include Microsoft-direct-paid: round-trip air travel, airport transfers, program meals,
program events, and hotel accommodations. Any item purchased directly
by the participant is the responsibility of the participant. (If
you are traveling with a spouse or companion, all travel expenses for the
spouse or companion will be the responsibility of the participant and
will
not covered by Microsoft.)
To reserve your Microsoft-direct-paid hotel room and book your
Microsoft-direct-paid travel, you must use the Faculty Summit 2005
registration Web site and follow the instructions.
Note To receive Microsoft-direct-paid travel and hotel, you
must use the Faculty Summit 2005 registration Web site. Microsoft
cannot reimburse you for any
travel arrangements (air, hotel, transportation) you make on your own.
What is
the dress code?
Please dress casually and comfortably. You do not have to wear a coat
or tie. The temperature in Seattle is usually quite pleasant in the
summer. Normal daytime temperature is 80 degrees. It rarely exceeds
90 degrees. However, it does cool off quite a bit in the evenings,
sometimes falling to 60–65 degrees. The evenings can get breezy. Although we hope for good weather, please don’t be surprised if we get a
few rain drops.

Will I
receive access to presentations after the conference?
Speakers who elect to share their presentations will post their files to
the Microsoft Research Faculty Summit 2005 site.
Is
transportation available to and from the conference center?
Buses will be provided to and from the conference hotel (Hyatt Regency
Bellevue and Redmond Town Center Marriott) and the Microsoft Conference
Center. Buses will also be provided from the conference social events
and the conference hotel. Two cab vouchers will be provided to you:
one for the trip from the airport to the conference hotel and the other
for the return trip back to the airport.
Note Microsoft cannot reimburse you for any transportation
(including cabs or rental car) that you purchase directly.
How do I
use my return taxi cab voucher to the SeaTac airport?
The conference cab company is Yellow Cab (dispatch
206-622-6500; Microsoft Research Faculty Summit account # 70000). Your
airport return cab voucher is in your welcome package. If you did not
receive it, please see the Registration Desk.
How do I
get to the conference center if I am driving directly?
Driving Directions from downtown Bellevue to the Microsoft Conference
Center:
• Take I-405 Northbound to Highway 520 East
• Take the Highway 520 East exit
• Stay on East Highway 520 for 2.7 miles to the 40th Street exit.
• Take the NE 40th Street exit.
• Turn right at the top of the ramp onto NE 40 Street.
• Turn right at first light onto 156th Ave NE, move into the left lane.
• Turn left into the Microsoft Campus onto NE 36th Street.
• Follow NE 36th Street until you get to 36th Way.
• Where 36th Street and 36th Way intersect, stay to the right, the
Microsoft Conference Center is on the left and is marked building 33.
Are
meals provided at the conference?
Dinner is served at the Microsoft Research Faculty Summit 2005 opening
reception on Sunday evening, July 17. Continental breakfast, lunch,
and dinner is served on Monday, July 18 and Tuesday, July 19.
Note Microsoft cannot reimburse you for any meals that you
purchase directly. You will be asked if you have any dietary
restrictions or allergies when you register.

Can I
make cell phone calls during the conference?
We ask that you set your cell phone to silent alarm during the conference
presentations. If you need to leave the presentation room, we would ask
that you do so with a minimum of disruption to other attendees. The
agenda has been arranged with morning and afternoon breaks for e-mail and
phone access.
Can I
take pictures during the presentations?
Photographs are permitted only during the first five minutes of a
presentation. We ask that you refrain from taking pictures during
the remainder of each presentation. The speakers and other
attendees will appreciate your cooperation.
Is
smoking permitted in the conference center?
Smoking is not permitted in the Microsoft Conference Center. Please
step outside of the building to smoke.
