 Kodu, a new visual programming language made specifically for creating games, was unveiled at the International Consumer Electronics Show in January. The program is designed to be accessible for children and enjoyable for anyone. The programming environment runs on the Xbox, allowing rapid design iteration using only a game controller for input.
Songsmith, released January 8, is an application that generates musical accompaniment to match a singer’s voice. Songsmith gives users a way to create something authentically musical and authentically personal, even without prior understanding of chords or music theory. Songsmith lends the ability to share songs, post them online or create music videos.
The first Graduate Women's Scholarship, sponsored by Microsoft Research, was given on February 7. The honor is given to outstanding female students enrolled in their first or second year in a graduate program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics.
