... Talk about cool. Xian-Sheng Hua, a
researcher with Microsoft Research Asia’s Internet Media Group, is
demonstrating technologies he has developed that promise to
revolutionize the field of video search.
Typically, he explains, video search uses surrounding text or captions
to identify keywords that can be used for search. But because video is
such a visual medium, this text-based approach has limited utility at
best.
“We go beyond that,” Hua says, “by using content-based indexing.”

build entertaining videos from still photos.' In the
Photo2Video project, the researchers used three key steps to
automatically convert photos into video, taking their cues from
traditional filmmaking techniques. The steps are story generation,
