the 1^st Workshop on Internet Multimedia Search and Mining (IMSM'09)

(Final Extended Deadline: Mar 1, 2009)

The explosion of online multimedia data brings us new challenges to multimedia content analysis and multimedia retrieval especially in terms of scalability. Both computational costs and accuracy are still far from satisfactory with the increase of multimedia data and the increase of semantic demands. While on the other hand, Internet also provides us new opportunities to attack these challenges as well as conventional problems in multimedia analysis and computer vision. That is, the massive associated metadata (say, surrounding text, tags, and comments) available on the Internet, as well as the massive grassroots Internet users are valuable resources that can be leveraged to solve these difficulties. We call this co-existence of challenges and opportunities on multimedia research “Internet Multimedia”, or more specifically, “Internet Multimedia Search and Mining”. This workshop aims at bringing together novel research efforts along this direction.

This one-day workshop will be held on July 3, 2008 at the same place of ICME 2009, just after the main conference.
