Brief Bio: I am a Researcher at Microsoft Research where I help champion the Machine Learning and Optimization area. I received a bachelor's degree in Physics from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi in 1997 and another one in Computation from the University of Oxford in 2000 on a Rhodes Scholarship. I then stayed on at Oxford on a University Scholarship and obtained a DPhil in Engineering in 2004. Before joining Microsoft Research I was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at MSRI Berkeley. I have been an Adjunct Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi in the Computer Science and Engineering Department since 2009 and jointly in the School of Information Technology since 2011. My research interests lie in the areas of machine learning, computational advertising and computer vision. I have served/am serving as an Area Chair for machine learning and computer vision conferences such as ACCV, CVPR, ICCV, ICVGIP and NIPS.

Research

I am interested in the following research areas

I am looking for full time graduate students (MS, MTech and PhD) and Research Assistants to work with me on problems in supervised machine learning and extreme classification. Please apply to one of IIT Delhi's graduate programmes in the CSE Department or the School of IT if you'd like to work with me. IIT offers PhD Studentships in collaboration with MSR and many other labs such as Google, IBM and TCS. Please look at the CSE Department's web pages for more details and other funding opportunities.

Unfortunately, I am unable to supervise students outside IIT Delhi. If you are an external student and would like to work with me then the best way would be to join one of IIT Delhi's graduate programmes.

If you are a PhD student looking to do an internship with me then please e-mail me directly. I have only one or two internship slots and competition is stiff so please apply early. Please do not apply to me or e-mail me if you are not a graduate student as I will not be able to respond to you.
