During his tenure at Microsoft Research Asia, Dr. Li has noticed the works of image based rendering (IBR) research done at Microsoft, such as Lumigraph, Lightfield , Layered Depth Image , Concentric Mosaics , etc.. Being a compression expert, he starts to consider how to compress the IBR image set efficiently. He has worked out a number of different compression methods, such as:
