Until I have time to write a proper essay, I will settle for identifying a few sites that I visit on a very frequent basis. The on-line New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/), available without charge, has from the start recognized that this medium has possibilities far beyond being a digitized newspaper. I now buy a significant proportion of my books from amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/), which has added a number of interesting features, including a nice example of "social filtering" to aid in book recommendation. I also find and buy many airline tickets with Expedia (http://expedia.msn.com/). And for rental cars it seems particularly efficient. On-line travel agencies have room for improvement, but they're coming along.
