Section 6 ½ Fault-Tolerant Systems 447

Software exists so that up to 255 geographically dispersed Tandem systems can be interconnected in a distributed data processing network. Tandem applications have included order entry, hospital records, bank transactions, and library transactions. As of fall 1978, 109 systems incorporating 257 processors had been installed. The smallest systems employed two processors, and the largest, ten processors.

Chapter 51 discusses Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) features in the System/370 line of general-purpose commercial computers.
