My favorite computer architecture uses a single bus to interconnect all the computer’s components. This was first used to build the PDP-11.

Beginning in the mid-80s, nearly all computers were built using this structure. It works well because all components can communicate with one another. Since each processor includes a cache, bus traffic is reduced. Caches can remain coherent by observing each other’s transactions.
