Songsmith – the totally sweet new product from Microsoft Research – allows novice musicians to get a taste of original music creation, just by singing into a microphone, and provides songwriters with an “intelligent scratchpad” to explore new musical ideas.

I’m a researcher in the CUE (Computational User Experiences) group at Microsoft Research. My current research interests include:

  • Computer support for musical composition

  • Using physiological signals for input

  • Improving within-visit information accessibility for hospital patients

My long-term research interests include:

  • Computer support for creativity in the arts

  • Novel computer applications in music

  • Using technology to improve hospital patient experiences

  • Novel user interface hardware

  • Signal processing for medical and computer input applications

  • Brain-computer interfaces

We’re always looking for interns, particularly in the creativity-support, computer music, and alternative-input spaces. If you’re creative, you’re a bit of a hacker-type, and you’re interested spending some time in Seattle, drop me a line.
