Method
A panel of world-class scientists (the
2020 Science group) with areas of expertise encompassing
among others computer science, biology, chemistry, physics,
transport and medicine were asked to consider the impact of
computer science and computing on science over the next
fifteen years.
Participants submitted a position paper on the topic 'Towards
2020 Science' prior to meeting for a two-day
workshop in the summer of 2005.
At the workshop, participants interacted and brainstormed in the
presence of a roadmapping expert (Dr Robert Phaal, Department
of Engineering, University of Cambridge), further help from
additional expert contributors was sought.
The result is a timely, provocative and stimulating
report.
