    Microsoft Research Asia established in November 1998, which was formally named as Microsoft Research China until November 2001. It is located in Beijing as the second largest basic research institution besides the one in U.S.

     

    Through research and hunt for innovations, we are in hope to eventually enable future computers to be capable of watching, listening and learning and communicate with human in natural languages. Besides, we also expect to allow computers and Internet in China and entire Asia to be used so popular, convenient and easy as they are in other countries and regions. Currently Microsoft Research Asia owns over 300 excellent research staff.

     

    August 2008
    Microsoft Research Asia 10th Anniversary Innovation Forum was held in Hong Kong. Bill Gates delivered the Forum's keynote speech "Innovation for the Next Decade", followed by the academic panel discussion "Technology and Society – Dialogue with Visionaries" alongside three Hong Kong university presidents - attending students were given the opportunity to ask the panel questions after the dialogue.
     
    April 2008
    With the help of Microsoft Research Asia, the 17th International World Wide Web (WWW 2008) Conference was held in Beijing. WWW Conference was introduced to Mainland China for the first time, during which Microsoft Research Asia presented 8 papers.
     
    March 2008
    TechFest 2008 was held on March 4-6 in Redmond, Washington. Microsoft Research Asia presented 45 innovative technologies to attendees of the event from Microsoft Research labs around the world.     
     
    January 2008
    The 2007 Awards of Excellence for Doctoral Degree Dissertations organized by China Computer Federation and sponsored by Microsoft Research Asia was held on January 30 in Beijing.     
     
    January 2008
    On January 14, Microsoft Research Asia held the second Microsoft Research Asia Joint Lab Symposium in Harbin together with ten universities of Asia-Pacific Region.
