Wenwu Zhu is a Senior Researcher at Media Computing Group of Microsoft Research Asia. Prior to his current post, he was a Principal Architect at Microsoft Advanced Technology Center from April 2008 to April 2009. He was the Director and Chief Scientist of Intel Communication Technology Lab China as well as a Principal Engineer from September 2004 to March 2008. He was with Microsoft Research Asia as a Project Leader at Internet Media Group and the (founding) Research Manager of Wireless and Networking Group from October 1999 to September 2004. From 1996 to 1999, he was with core Bell Labs at AT@T/Lucent Technologies as Member of Technical Staff. He has published over 200 referred papers in the areas of video delivery over Internet and mobile Internet, and wireless communications and networking. He participated in the IETF ROHC WG on robust TCP/IP header compression over wireless links and IEEE 802.16m WG standardization. He is inventor of over 50 patents. His current research interests are in the area of Internet&mobile media computing and communication.
Dr. Zhu has served on various editorial boards of IEEE journals, such as Guest Editor for the Proceedings of the IEEE, IEEE T-CSVT, and IEEE JSAC; Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, IEEE Transactions on Multimedia, and IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology. He received the Best Paper Award in IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology in 2001 from IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. And he received the Best Paper Award from Multimedia Communication Technical Committee in IEEE Communications Society in 2004 for his paper published in IEEE JSAC. Dr Zhu currently is Beijing Chapter Chair of IEEE Circuits and System Society and past-Chair of Visual Signal Processing and Communication Technical Committee of IEEE Circuits and System Society. He serves the Steering Committee of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing and advisory board on International Journal of Handheld Computing Research.
Wenwu Zhu received the B.E. and M.E. degrees from National University of Science and Technology, China, in 1985 and 1988, respectively, the M.S. degree from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, and the Ph.D. degree from New York University (Polytechnic Institute), New York, in 1993 and 1996, respectively, all in Electrical Engineering.
